misunderstanding positive set theory?
|
| |
[link] Let , in positive set theory : B = { a | a ∈ a } ( the set of all sets that contain themselves ) Y = { Z | ∀x x∈ Z or x∈ B } (the set of all sets which contain all the elements which are not in B ) C = { p | ∀C ∈ Y , p ∈ C } (the largest common subset of all the... more »

A counterexample in algebra
|
| |
Hi, I've been able to reduce a counterexample to the following (I assume that there is a counterexample): Find R-modules A,B with a surjective homomorphism f:A->B such that there is a homomorphism g:B->B which doesn't factorize through f. Clearly there's a map which is not a homomorphism that satisfies the... more »

Rudin and Dedekind cuts
|
| |
I'd very much appreciate some help with how Rudin developed Dedekind cuts in the appendix of chap 1 of PMA. My main problem is this: He defines R as a set of sets, intuitively open intervals like (-infinity, x). Then he proves that R is an ordered field that contains a subfield which is isomorphic to Q. That's all fine, no problem with that.... more »

The Jihad Candidate

DUDE, have you gone mad ? The ZIONIST MEDIA never barked that it was a jew or a yank bastard when those fake anthrax letters were mailed. 911 was an inside job. Thermate cutter charges were used by yank bastards themselves. The media never did their job for the people or truth. It did it for the corporations.... more »

estimating integrals

hello, I'm trying to better understanding of hankel transforms: below is from titchmarsh, and J_v is the bessel function of the first kind consider the integral (for L->oo) ...Up to this point i think i am fine - but i'm not sure how to make each step rigorous, but it certainly seems intuitive enough that for large L, y is... more »

Calculus in ever day work and life?
|
| |
Hello, I am new here and hope to not offend anyone or be out of line with this question. I have been searching but haven't found a very in depth answer, as of yet, to this question. So I thought I would stop by here and see if anyone had some thoughts on this. What kind of jobs actually use calculus in a day to day way, where you... more »

Integer lattice
|
| |
Hello, perhaps it is a little boring to bring up this problem once again but I have some problems with it, yet. Problem: Let f:Z^2-->[0,oo) be a function such that f(n,m)=(f(n+1,m) +f(n-1,m)+f(n,m+1)+f(n,m-1))/4 then f is constant. I have seen the following solution in a book with the title...well...something with "newman" in the title, but however, here... more »
